Tune Up Your Sketching: A Sketching Get Together

In conjunction with the Summer SKETCH event on June 10th with TRAVELER'S COMPANY, we are offering a FREE community event workshop! Kick off the day long Sketch Party with this gathering and learn about the joys of en plein air drawing.

In the last few years sketching with pen and ink has become very popular.  Although sketching has been around in some form for thousands of years, it has gained popularity as a way for travelers to personalize trips with quick sketches and has become useful for those who wish to sketch the world one sketch at a time....urban sketchers.  This gathering will be an opportunity to bring together people who want to learn about sketching and those who are now sketching but would like "talk" and "do" some sketching.  You will discuss some basics of sketching, followed by a brief sketching demo, and finally time to sketch and share the results. There are plenty of lessons and sharing on the internet, but it just seems more fun when you are with others who share your passion.  Come and join us.  Future sketching gatherings are a possibility.

The purpose of the workshop is to tune up or rekindle the spirit of adventure in sketching.  It can be a great hobby and it can be useful if you are thinking about doing some travel sketching.  Who knows, maybe you will want to join the urban sketcher groups in Tampa, St Petersburg and Orlando? They are always looking for kindred spirits to join that next sketch meet up.

This workshop is a generous donation of local urban sketcher, Don Dellow, however registration is required. All materials to use in the workshop are supplied by The Paper Seahorse. Feel free to bring your favorite sketching notebook, paper and drawing materials. As always with community meet ups, bringing something to share is encouraged; refreshments, inspiration or supplies.

About The Instructor: Don Dellow

I am an avid sketcher and am very active in urban sketching locally, belonging to urban sketcher groups in Tampa, Orlando and St. Petersburg. I regularly post my sketches on the Tampa Urban Sketchers website.  I enjoy sketching at home in my office but sketching while sitting on a bench or my three-legged stool in front of an interesting building is the most fun and satisfying. There is nothing like trying to capture the moment with the sounds, smells and motion of people and things. Sketching allows me to do that. I am a retired educator with 50 years of teaching and administration experience in colleges and universities.
